vl_ctrl

This is a suite of programs to control the Yamaha Synths VL70-m and VL1(m) from a computer. It allows import/export of patches (vl70m: more than 6!), easy patch-change and immediate contol of selected parameters (which might not be accessible even via the synth-buttons).

As a performing musician i could not think of doing without cl_ctrl.

FREE : vl70ctrl 0.1 (OSX)

This little program works with the Yamaha synth vl70-m and it runs on OSX. It is a stripped down version of a program I use in performances, allowing to controle my synths from the Powerbook and freeing me from using the buttons/displays on the synths.

vl70ctr reads voice-files from your harddisk to the vl70-m, which is nice if you want to use more than 6 custom voices. It allows to control volume, pan, reverb etc. and there's also a little recorder. Read the info-file for some help.

There are two .syx-files included (from preset) to demonstrate possible file-location and the behavior of the patch. Note that I use (13-part) .syx-files (=current voice) as opposed to (15-part) custom slot files. My way to do it is to edit voices in expert-editor (os9), transfer them with "sysex-librarian" and use them in vl70ctr (solved in vl70_ctrl). Worked nicely for me.

vl70_ctrl and vl1_ctrl (OSX)

In the meanwhile i have extended the program a lot, its now much more intuitive and easy to use than the old (free) version. It includes more parameters to be controled (~20 seem to be a convenient number) and several useful features such as load/save, temporary storage, etc. Its really a nice interface for performance and practicing. But its also a simple patch-librarian and to a certain extend a patch-editor.

If interrested i provide detailed information and i sell a copy for

50euros for the vl70_ctrl/OSX

70euros for the vl1_ctrl/OSX

customized vl_ctrl for vl1/vl70m or both,
for OS9 or XP

I sell vl_ctrl also for OS9 and for XP if needed, but it will be more expensive since i have not ported them yet (should be a question of 1-2 weeks, mainly to find and adapt the machines).

As every musician likes to arrange things to his/her own principles and needs, I am offering also versions of the program customized with regard to:

  • special layout of the control-interface (grouping and immediate launch of a certain patch, other ordering of the sliders, etc.)
  • include control of any of the vl-parameters the user wants to control
  • include other features (such as midi-routing, a little mixer/recorder, etc.)
