julean simon vibra ... using a resonance speaker to set the wax under vibration. |
Idea |
I experimented with building a powered resonance-speaker into the wax and feed it with the current/modified sound (coming from the PHONES of the RME-fireface). Since it turned out to significantly enrich the playing experience (particular for my cello-suite-project, see also: ....) i decided to build a permanent setup. From several resonance speakers i chose the Auvisio VI-88 (1W, 300-10000Hz, 4ohm, 10euro at pearl.de). On my other wax i plan to test the "Cliptec 360 Vibration Multimedia Speaker BMS440" (3W) - although it is quite heavy... |

My first idea was to built in a shaker plus its amplifier into the WX5. There would be a plug where i plug in the audio-signal that comes from the RME fireface phones-port. In order to do that, i have to get 5V from the WX5 (e.g. see image). But that did not work, because of MIDI-interruptions from time to time. |

So i had to make the amp external to the WX5. I wanted to get the 5V from a switching power supply (Garmin, see img) that provides a usb-plug for charging Garmin-devices. I thought I build the amp into its housing, with holes for the on/offswitch and the LED and the two cables (audiosignal in and out). On the underside of this usb-plug i found the 5V and connected cables.

On the amp of the VI-88 i soldered the 5V from the USB-adapter, and the input-cable from the RME-phones (6mm plug) and finally the output-cable to the wax (3mm plug).

Thats how the piece of equip looks finally. |

Inside the WAX: In order to spare an extra cable to the wax i wanted to use the free lines of the existing WX-cable: there is one free lace and also the mass is unused, although in the plug (in the WX) the mass is soldered to other wires (why?). So i had to disconnected the 2 incoming mass-wires with a sharp knive (scratch the copper on the little board). i used double-adhesive to stick the shaker in the free cabinet at the end of the wax (above akku-housing), avoiding contact with other parts. Next i soldered the corresponding laces at the other end of the WX5-cable (its socket in the VL1m) to a second (3mm-)socket, where the 3mm-plug goes, that comes from the amp. |
